“Pictures of Susan” Documentary: Second Screening at ICA Miami, 9 September 2016

Sep 1, 2016

We are pleased to announce a second screening of the feature documentary, Pictures of Susan, at ICA Miami on the 9th of September 2016 at 7pm. Susan and some of her family will be present for the event.

The documentary “Pictures of Susan” provided me with the an immense emotional connection to Susan’s work, and her life. To me, without the documentary, each image would not hold the same meaning in the way the characters relate to one another, the way they transform, and the actions pursued through the drawings. Each time I lay my eyes on a drawing by Susan, more meaning and images can be found opening the visitors to the inner workings of a beautiful mind. The documentary really puts the drawings in context with Susan’s story, and her family history that touches the soul, bringing further light to the importance of the imagery revealed.

– Riana Casa (ICA Miami)

I loved learning about Susan’s unique story and seeing the places where her wonderful drawings were created. These insights enrich the conversations I share with our visitors and make me passionate about helping the public have a deeper connection with her artwork. I feel lucky not only getting to spend time with Susan’s expression and her inner landscape, but watching the public appreciate her drawings as well. Thank you for sharing Susan’s inspiring life story and amusing anecdotes with the world!

– Julie Fliegenspan (ICA Miami)

The film examines the artist’s upbringing and earliest works, her twenty-year dormant period, and the recent resurgence in interest from the art world for her idiosyncratic drawings since resuming in 2008.

Admission is free but please RSVP.
